um. territory in three tries?

My territory - 

The territory of my experiment is wave making. This has been explored through causing recurrent motion amongst gravel in a glass, or by inducing waves in a plane of glass. As Iain mentioned to me, these are all relational systems and the waves can only exist when the appropriate components are present and interact with each other. 

Waves in a sense are no more than energy. So in a certain sense they always require such a relational system to be observed. Vibrations are only sound when changes in fluid pressure cause a vibration in the membrane 

I thought about htis over the week and sat down a few times for some writing

I don't think I got anywhere that I haven't been already

to try to write or consider language like waves

words are often thought of as finite discreet representations 

waves inhabit a number of possibilities 

writing two:

- they can perhaps be better thought of as a 

region/field through which energy is traveling. energy travelling through a parametricaly defined region

language in a way is similar to this, each word has a range of definitions. It is bounded but not definite, similarly the definition of words is affected or constrained by  the other words around them

however whereas words become increasingly definined by those around them, losing their other possible meanings waves pass through each other, the effects carry out on each other but they can pass through each other and return to their original state - it is in a way lossless 

how to make a poetics that the words are multidefinitional and allow a notion of interference yet in a way that they can retain their field of definition

I have seen this in  things like the Tao te Ching or certain lyrical modes

how to make a language of refraction - in ways language is already like this. words themselves as individual waves, when placed together affect each others state to create a pattern of meaning, depending upon which words we use, this meaning will either be very defined or diffuse. consider scientific or otherwise precise words, they tend ot be outside of colloquial language and thus can maintain a specific abstract meaning. this is analogous to a standing wave - given the proper boundaries/ parameters, the wave forms a uniform, discreet and unmoving or barely moving form. the majority of language however, not being held in such specific parameters and disuse ends up being something different, harder to describe succinctly. Words pass through and over one another, exchanging between one another, adding and subtracting to form a complexity difficult to map and can only be done retrospectively. 

to refract is to come to a boundary and be affected by it. (total internal refraction/reflection? - wave gets entirely reflected back into its territory) 

Try 3:

My territory is that of wave making, sending waves and information through relational systems.

The problem worth having here is to understand how these reflect back into the system, and how they transfer into the boundaries of the system and out of it….
