The items on my inventory list were printed out and turned into raffle tickets. Six pairs were picked:
Shelves/ shells
tissue paper/ smooth stones
dremel tool/ hammers
drill press/ chainsaw
fussball table/ miniature cutting blades
razor blades/ trash bin
I didn’t like these 6, so I picked another 6.
fussball table/ radial arm saw.... Yes, even though I shuffled them, I got the fussball
table again, and another means of cutting or splitting. I got several things that evoke splitting or cutting such as chain saw, razor blades. Tissue paper and smooth stones was nice, but too easy.
re-shuffle.... fussball table again (!)/ awls
nails / trash
dremel / driftwood
thumb tacks / cement
angle lamp /mylar sheet
I felt guilty about picking another 6, and instead of stopping right there, I picked another 6. I really wanted certain things to get picked!
Metal polish /plaster of paris
water colors /drop cloth
lead sheet / oil paint
scissors / light sensitive chemicals
T squares / gold leaf
pencils / scotch tape
Now, feeling nervous about obtaining the fussballl table 3 times (twice picked by me, once by my husband) and having seen nasty creepy movie previews on TV I felt that the fussball table was demanding to be included in the experiment. So, which pair could be used to illustrate a convulsive fusion?
fussball table/ miniature cutting blades
fussball table / awls
fussball table / radial arm saw
fussball table/ miniature cutting blades was picked first, and features one of two ways of cleaving things. Therefore, I chose to work with it.
- Take miniature cutting blades and use them with my Dremel tool to cut the legs or heads off the plastic players. Acquire some blood (fake?) and have a massacre/riot of plastic fussball players as two humans try to keep them playing. Film them ( the plastic people) disintegrating, but fused in their determination to play soccer.
- Use blades to sculpt new, magical, bizarre figures to play the game, fused from other body parts. If they could have had a convulsion, they would.
- Re-tool the entire table assembly, cut into little pieces and reassemble. Balance the pieces so that if kicked, a cascade of bits would occur. Kick it. Film the collapse and then reverse the film to see a convulsive fusion occur.
- Use blades to take the table apart and create a new game altogether, a game in which surprise and catastrophic, convulsive consequences occur, but are overcome in a joint effort, such as an alternative to chess. Life itself; some of the players could be of a finite persuasion, some could be more free form. They could kick around a problem ( a nuclear bomb?), rather than a soccer ball.
5. Make a groove in each player’s plastic form and insert one of the raffle tickets. Cut facets on the game ball, say 12, and in tiny writing name one raffle ticket object on each facet. Play soccer with them, and make note of the item on the soccer player and the item on the game ball when the ball is kicked. Create more pairs.
6. Attach pens to soccer players, or markers, place paper over their heads, fasten it to the table, play soccer and cause the players to make marks on the paper when they connect with the ball.

7. Something I really want to try, but not picked:
Put a piece of gold leaf on a pool of honey. Let the honey slowly run down a slope and cause the gold leaf to fracture. The patterns the gold leaf makes when fracturing would be like fractals, the surface changing from a fused, united stability to many convulsive breaks. I have sticky, viscous substances in my studio and hoped gold leaf and something sticky would turn up. I will do this project any way. Is this a convulsive fusion? It is a decision to convulsively ignore the process, and a fusion of my ideas.
